Genealogy  Accomplishments

 

  • Documented over 5,000 relatives

  • 1997, Located a long-lost WWII ½ brother in Wales, England

    • Reunited her father with his WWII son after 53 years of separation

    • Wrote three articles documenting her search and family reunion with her Dad and brother;  published in The New York Amsterdam News, The Roanoke Tribute, and The Roanoke Time

  • Featured Photo-Journalist  “Father and Son” Exhibition at Empire State College in NYC

  • While researching her maternal grandmother’s family she located two rare books:  “The Three Generations” and “Cansler Short Methods in Arithmetic” written by her great uncle Charles W. Cansler (Copyright 1939)

  • Contributed to “The Cansler Family in America” by William Clifford Roberts, Jr. (Copyright 2001)                

  • 2009, Inducted into the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (“DAR”)                 

  • 2010, Received Training and Genealogy Consultant Certification from the “NSDAR”

  • 2011,  Located family headstones at the Mahanaim United Methodist Church Cemetery  which was once a Cherokee Village and the Burial grounds of her Cherokee ancestors

  • 2011, Audio Interview "Finding My Brother Barry In Wales, UK;  Story Corp. - U.S. Library of Congress

  • 2012, Featured on ABC-TV  Segment “Here and Now” – “Genealogy Highlights” with Sandra Bookman       

  • 2012 Honored with the Inaugural Champion of the African Diaspora Award, NY Chapter, Commander of the Sons and Daughters of the Colored Troops

  • 2013 Donated a Pictorial History of “The Hunts Family of Marion Virginia” to Mount Pleasant United Church Museum

  • 2013,  “ Back To Your Roots" - Featured Presenter for the National Association of Black Women in Higher Education at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY

  • 2015, Located the Canslers Family Burial site  at The Hiwassee College Cemetery, Madisonville, Tenn 

  • 2016, Genealogy Presentation for The Second Baptist Church, Balwin, New York

  • 2017, "Finding Your Roots" Black History Presentation, Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, Jersey City, NJ

  • 2017, The NYC Veterans Healthcare Administration, Ongoing Vets Genealogy Presentations/Workshops
